Building Community Through Sweat Equity
24 November 2021
This new exhibit by the Grimsby Museum explores the homebuilding co-op experience in a small Ontario town. Featuring firsthand accounts and archival footage, Sweat Equity – The Grimsby Homebuilding Co-operative 1953–1956 looks at the movement’s origins in Nova Scotia and its later spread to other Canadian towns and cities, while also celebrating a community that ultimately built more than houses.
